2020 Rapid Play Champion: Simon Rutherford

Simon Rutherford has won the third rapid tournament for the year, and with it the 2020 Rapid Tournament Championship prize. Unlike the first two tournaments, he was unable to get a picket fence score, conceding a draw to former club champion, Scott Stewart. Half a point behind was Joel Beggs on 5 of 6, whose only lost point went to Simon. Ruari, Scott and young Leo followed on 4.5 points. 25 people participated in the online tournament which was enjoyed by all.

Simon won with a picket fence of 6/6, 1.5 points ahead of Ruari on 4.5/6. For the reserves, (under 1000 rating points on Vega) Kalen and Dylan scored highest with 3/6. Organiser: Ruari Coffey

26 players participated in the 1st Rapid Play tournament of the year, a good turnout. Simon scored 6 of 6, a point ahead of Bas, who was a point ahead of the next four players all on 4 points.

Rapid Play
Throughout the year there are three Rapid Play tournaments, each player starting with 25 minutes plus a 10 second increment per move. Each tournament is six rounds held over two weeks. This is an unrated event which encourages players to experiment and take more chances, often leading to exciting and unexpected outcomes.
